Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is a medical specialty focused on the reconstruction, restoration, and enhancement of the body’s form and function. It is divided into two main categories: reconstructive surgery and cosmetic (or aesthetic) surgery.

Reconstructive surgery aims to repair and restore the body following trauma, injury, congenital defects, or disease. This includes procedures like breast reconstruction after mastectomy, cleft lip and palate repair, burn treatment, and the correction of traumatic injuries such as facial fractures or severe lacerations. Reconstructive surgeons work to restore both function and appearance, helping patients regain a sense of normalcy in their lives.

Cosmetic surgery is performed to enhance appearance and improve aesthetic appeal, targeting features that patients may wish to alter or improve. Common cosmetic procedures include rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), facelifts, breast augmentation, liposuction, and tummy tucks. These procedures are typically elective and are designed to boost a patient’s self-confidence by addressing their personal aesthetic goals.
